Overview
At Otto Car, we provide comprehensive insurance coverage to keep you protected while driving one of our vehicles. Whether you're on our Rent to Buy, Rental, or Aftercare schemes, our insurance policies are designed to offer peace of mind, ensure road compliance, and make it easy for you to stay covered throughout your journey with us.
Process Summary
Getting Insured
Your vehicle is automatically insured by Otto once your agreement starts.
You will receive:
Insurance Certificate (for legal cover)
Permission Letter (proving you're covered on this vehicle – needed for Uber)
Adding or Removing a Vehicle from Insurance
You don’t need to do this yourself – Otto staff manage this automatically when your contract begins or ends.
If you're swapping cars or pausing your contract, the insurance team updates this for you.
Insurance Renewals
You’ll get emails 6 weeks and 3 weeks before your insurance is due for renewal.
Make sure your contact details (email, phone number, address) are up to date so you receive your new insurance documents in time.
Once generated, your updated certificate and permission letter will be sent to you automatically via email or the Driver Portal.
Leaving the UK Mainland
Driving the vehicle outside of the UK mainland is a breach of contract and voids your insurance.
If you do leave the UK, your insurance will be removed, and you may face contract termination.
Always contact us before planning any travel that could affect your insurance.
In Case of Theft or an Incident
Report the incident to us immediately.
We may ask you to:
Provide a Police crime reference number
Attend an interview at our Colindale hub
If the vehicle is confirmed as a total loss, we will discuss:
Replacement options
Settlement offers
Refunds or deductions based on your contract
Losing Insurance Coverage
Your insurance may be removed immediately for:
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Falling asleep whilst driving
Repeated ‘dozing off’ in stationary or slow traffic
Dangerous or reckless driving
Exceeding 100mph
6 total accidents during contract, regardless of fault
3 fault accidents within contract term
Leaving the UK without permission
In these cases, your contract may be terminated, or you’ll need to get your own insurance before continuing.
